When I think back to my first Airbnb listing in 2016, I can't help but laugh. I had started flipping properties only 2 years earlier and so far had done well but the market was changing and houses weren't selling. I had a single family home that wouldn’t cashflow as a long term rental and I needed to do something because the buyers weren’t coming and I couldn't afford to hold it any longer.
As a desperate effort to not lose the house, I sourced furniture from friends and opened our first Airbnb. Luckily, we were making money immediately so that stress was removed but it was replaced with the overwhelming learning curve of trying to run this new business I knew nothing about and knowing what could happen if it wasn’t a success.
I spent the next few years working on creating systems to scale from 200 guests per year to nearly 4000 guests in 2022 and automate most of the process, all while generating multiple 6 figures in annual revenue, contributing to my community and making sure our guests felt taken care of.
